If My Life Was A Story

“If your skill life and life was a story, what would it be?” I thought about this prompt for a long time. I had decided that I wanted to take my story to a place that I'm very interested in and that is Greek mythology. I fell in love with the subject in the fifth grade when I read The Odyssey and also the entire series of Percy Jackson And The Olympians. If there is a Greek God that best relates to me, it would be Apollo. Apollo is the God of light and truth; he is the master of poetry and music. He seeks prophecy to find truth. Of course the mastery of poetry and music is a large part of my life, but, also like Apollo, I live for seeking light and truth. You will find me always asking questions to find the real answers. You will especially see me exhibit these characteristics when I'm working within a group envtironment. I'm the group member who strives to lighten up the mood when the stress begins to pile up and can never rest until I know that the answer I am putting down is, in fact, the correct answer.

Like everyone, though, I have my limits. It doesn't take much for me to get angry, I can quickly work my self up into rage. Because of this, I can tie myself in with the story of Cronus, also from Greek mythology. He may have many traits but he is most well known for swallowing his own children. Now I'm not saying that I have ever or will ever swallow somebody, but I can certainly relate to that level of irritation. We all have our ways of handling frustration and I am proud to say that I have learned to handle it in a controlled manner which links me right back to the Greek God, Apollo. My real life story may not be a part of Greek Mythology, but I will always have the dream of growing up to be a Greek Goddess.

Test Reflection

I cannot say that I was terribly thrilled when I walked in to AP Lit on Monday and heard that we were taking a practice AP test.  It was the first thing I have taken remotely similar to an AP test, since I haven’t taken any AP classes until this year. It wasn’t surprising to me that my score wasn’t great, though I am eager to learn the information and tricks to do much better on future practice tests and the actual test in the spring. Throughout my English classes during my high school career, I have found that my strengths in literature are being able to understand and pick out stuff such as metaphors and paradox. I am very good at identifying tone and mood of pieces and usually strong in detecting whether a piece of writing is an essay, ballad, sonnet, etc.

When I think about my weaknesses in literature, the first thing that comes to mind is being able to identify the message of the writing and sometimes the overall point to the story being told. My brain has an extremely difficult time processing all of the different literary devices going on at once in most pieces of writing, especially poems.  My mind typically wanders while I read them and, once I get to the end, I have absolutely no idea what I just read. I also have a hard time memorizing all of the literary devices and most times don’t know where them come into play.

When it comes to goals, the first thing I want to do is make sure I do what it takes to gain the test taking strengths I need for the AP test. The major problem I have with test taking is using my time efficiently.  In the next month or two, I want to be able to finish a section within roughly 40 minutes. When time is a priority, my mind typically wanders so that I’m only able to focus on how much time I have left and I get distracted from what I should be focusing on: the content within the test.

My Blog Design

I began by choosing a template I thought would best suit me. I was drawn to the template that had a strong shade of the colors blue and green. It so happens that those are my two favorite colors and also the colors of my bedroom! Not only are they my favorite colors, I feel like they describe my personality perfectly. The color blue symbolizes trust, honesty and loyalty. It is sincere, reserved and quiet. Green is a safe color. It symbolizes self-respect and well-being. I want to give my readers a feel for who I am.

I chose the calligraffitti font for my blog title because of the way it flows. It goes well with the dandelion from the template that is right of the title. It also goes hand in hand with the quote from which I got my title. It is my favorite quote of all time and is from the movie August Rush, “The music is all around us, all you have to do is listen.” The way the title with its calligraffitti hangs in the air of my template reminds me of wind. And just like the wind surrounds us, so does the music. I chose the Trebuchet font for this post because it is easy to read and is not too flashy. I chose Times New Roman font for the post’s title so that like the post it wouldn’t be too flashy, but so you can see the direct distinction between the title and the post.
